UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS
NAUNTON QUARRY
Following our successful visit to Naunton Quarry earlier in the year, Breedon’s have agreed on a second visit for a group limited to about 12 people. This has been offered as a joint event to members of the South Wales GA, who enjoyed their time with us last summer studying the Inferior Oolite around the Cotswolds. This time the focus will be on the Great Oolite succession at Naunton, which is very well explained by the company managers.
Good quality fossils can be collected.
This visit will be on Saturday 5 October starting at 10am.
Full PPE required as usual.
So far, two CMGS members have expressed interest, as well as three from the SWGA.
FAQs
What do I need to bring?
Hardhat, reflective jacket and trousers (high-vis), composite boots, goggles are all essentials. You may want to plan for the weather, for example: suncream if its hot, water, snacks, raincoat, gloves, warm clothing if its cold, clothing you don’t mind getting muddy. Spare bags for any specimens you would like to take home are also a good idea along with tools of the trade such as hammers and chisels.
Can anyone go on a field trip?
Due to health and safety concerns and insurance coverage, only members are allowed to go on CMGS field trips.
How do I register my interest or sign up?
Please either fill out the contact form on our website, reply to the members-wide email or talk to one of the committee members at your next meeting if you would like to attend a field trip.
